“People used to say one thing, ‘May Nigeria never happen to you.’ Nigeria happened to me, I must say.
It happened that on the 16th of October 2025, a particular number texted my business number. I sell night-wears and lingeries. So she told me to send the available ones, which I did, and she picked two.
She then told me that she was using her husband’s phone to chat with me because her phone was faulty, and that when they were done at the bank, I should bring her orders to the hotel where she and her husband lodged.
I told her I don’t do my business that way, that I have riders who help deliver items. A few hours later, she told me not to worry, that they would come and pick it up. So I gave them the location of my estate junction. A few minutes later, they told me they were there, so I went to meet them.
On getting there, I realised that even the nightwear she picked wouldn’t size her because she looked bigger. So I brought it out to show her. As she was checking it, a man walked close to me. He showed me his ID card and said he was a police officer, so I greeted him.
All I thought was maybe he was her husband she mentioned. As I was conversing with her and showing her some other pictures on my phone, she brought out her ID card too and said she was a police officer and that I was under arr£st.
She brought out a paper which showed all my numbers and all the locations I had been to. So I asked what my off£nc£ was. She said they had been tr@cking my number since last year, and that that line committed a k!dn@pp!ng and m&rd£r cr!m£, that they k!dn@pp£d someone, collected ₦50m r@ns0m, and still k!ll£d him.
I explained to her that, firstly, the SIM she was talking about was not even inside my phone but in my MiFi, I only connect it to my phone. Secondly, I bought that SIM card that same year. Despite all my explanations, they didn’t believe me.
I was sc@red, cry!ng, and praying to God. That very night, my lawyer told them we should go to the network provider’s office the next day to confirm everything.
On getting there, they confirmed that I bought that SIM card on the 15th of April 2025, while the incident happened on the 1st of January 2024. Still, the police officers were not convinced.
What happened to me might have happened to someone else, someone who is innocent and doesn’t have anyone to stand for them, and have landed them in jail. They really h@rass£d me and almost sent me to pr!s0n for what I know nothing about.
